Welcome to Kexby & Scoreby Parish Council

Kexby and Scoreby are villages and civil parishes in the unitary authority of the City of York, both were Iron Age and later Scandinavian settlements.

Kexby and Scoreby lie on the River Derwent situated between the A1079 and A166 roads about five miles east of York. Scoreby has the remains of a Roman Settlement and Roman Road buried under farmland along with the ancient village of Scoreby and ancient Iron Age burial mounds.

Kexby village is situated either side of the A1079 which is the principal route between York and Hull.

The Old Bridge over the River Derwent is a Scheduled Ancient Monument with a Grade II listing, once a toll bridge and built in 1650. A ferry was used to cross the river near to the bridge. St. Paul’s Church was built by Lord Wenlock in 1852, the National school was built a few years after the church for the accommodation of 60 children, both are now closed but the churchyard remains open.

The Parish boundaries extend to Dunnington, Gate Helmsley, Elvington and Stamford Bridge.

There are several walking routes through the Parish including The Minster Way, Scoreby Wood and Hagg Wood.

Kexby & Scoreby Parish Council meet four times a year and consists of seven elected/co-opted Parish Councillors including the Chairman and Vice Chairman plus a Parish Clerk. We are also a member of the Yorkshire Local Councils Association.
